As of today's date, if you ask who William Control is, you are directed to his web site that simply states, "Who Is William Control". The myspace page however, provides a little more insight . In the "About Me" section, there is somewhat of lyrical definition that ends with "I am inside of you.

William Control is a character that Wil Francis(lead singer of Aiden) created. It is his alter ego/dark side coming through, as he puts it. William Control is the darkest part of all us, that is too afraid to speak. You can't put that into any particular genre of music. It's not punk, rock, disco, emo, or pop. It has it's own entity that is free from any generic or corporate label. I have always found it quite insulting when music must be defined into a certain category, especially music that truly comes from the soul. Of course there is music for the masses that is like buying a box of frosted flakes. In my terms, that's pop. Once in awhile there is music that just doesn't need a category, because it's new, fresh, something we haven't heard before. It's honest. Whether it makes you feel like shit, or like you want to tap your Chuck Taylor's, it stimulates you. The last band that did this for me was The Human Abstract. With a disgusting plethora of bands who all sound the same, it is truly refreshing to hear something new.

I had the opportunity awhile back, to sit in the studio with Wil and have a listen to some of the tracks he was creating. I noticed that I had inadvertently started to tap my foot (always a good sign). All I can say is, it is rhythmic, dark, and definitely not Aiden. I hate comparing new stuff to old stuff, but sometimes you just have to. If you asked me for a specific description, I would say that it's a mix of "New Order" and "The Smiths", with "Marilyn Manson" and "Nine Inch Nails". It's all of those, plus some, combined into something entirely unique. I am sure William Control will receive mixed reviews, mostly from pissed off Aiden fans and critics who get completely confused trying to decipher and explain it. It is what it is. Love it or hate it, I can honestly tell you Wil Francis does not give a flying fuck what you think. It's his, but it's open to be yours too. Just like other forms of art, it is open to interpretation, whether you get it or not. Personally, I think it's a brilliant insight to the reality of one's darkness. However, if you are prone to fluffy kittens and pink unicorns, well then, you might not like it so much.

Who is "William Control"?
William Control is the sinister side of my psychosis that lives inside me, and wants to tear through my skin and bones.

How long have you been wanting to pursue this and what inspired you to do it?
It's been a year, maybe 9mths. It kinda started with me writing songs that didn't fit the Aiden mold or category of music style. I was inspired by some things and events that occurred in my life that were out of control. Those things compelled me to a state of darkness that made me want write an album.

Are you still in darkness?
In a way, I dunno....William Control is a character, he is the darkness that is a part of everyone. People hold back, especially in music. In today's society you have to be safe, no one is saying what they feel. I see guys in so called "Christian" bands doing 18 yr girls and getting stoned. They're fucking liars. So William Control is that fucked up guy inside that wants to say, " Fuck you, fuck God, fuck everything...let's fuck." That is a sentiment a lot of people think about, but are too scared to say it. Maybe I am too, but William Control is not.

How does the rest of Aiden feel about you doing this project ?
They feel great about it, Nick is playing live with me.The other guys are excited that I did something cool, they're very happy for me.

I know you have some tour dates set in the UK for William Control, is this where you will debut to audiences, or do you plan on doing this somewhere else?
The first show was in New York, then I will do some in England.

How did it go?
It went better than expected, it was pretty magical. I'll be doing a small 5 show tour around England in November. They'll be small shows, I think the biggest venue is 500 people.

Where would you like William Control to go musically?(What are your goals)
I don't know, and I don't have any goals. I didn't write the album cuz I felt the world needed a new message, I don't care what the world wants. I made it for me, it's just a piece of art I created from nothing.

What was the most challenging aspect of making the album? And when will it be released?
It will be released October 28th.The most challenging part was nothing actually. It came together quickly and smoothly, I came off tour and began writing in May. I wrote in London and in the studio at home. The first 10 days of June was recording keyboards and stuff, and then another 15 days doing vocals.

Did you do it all by your self?
Yeah.

Did anyone in particular help you with the inspiration behind the album?
Everything was done by William Control, from the writing, music and engineering, to the inspiration behind it.

How do you think Aiden fans will receive William Control?
A lot of Aiden fans are rock/punk fans, and this is not a rock album at all. It's not punk, I don't know what is, it's nothing rock, its fuck your genre rock.

Is William Control going to tour back here in the US?
Definitely.
